It is not tradition, as Thomas More aptly put it, to preserve the ashes, but to carry on the flame. And you, Lord Mayor, have kindly agreed to do so.
This year in Heilbronn, we European federalists can not only look back on 60 years of the Heilbronn District Association of the EUROPA-UNION Germany, but also on 60 years of European competition.
As early as 1946, the self-confessed Europeans were also active in Heilbronn. A district group of the EUROPA-UNION, founded by fellow citizens of the city and district of Heilbronn.
Immediately after the Second World War, European federalists from all over the world came together again and began to realize their ideas for the benefit of all European citizens.
As a self-confessed European, it goes without saying that I demand “more Europe” in these difficult times. More Europe in order to solve many of our current problems together with the citizens of our neighboring countries and to be able to face future challenges better together.
Education is more than vocational training and further education, which only serves to provide the market with suitable workers. Education turns people into responsible citizens.
Here in the city and district of Heilbronn, citizens of over 120 nationalities have been living together peacefully for decades.
The European success story continues. On March 25, during the German Council Presidency in the first half of 2007, we Europeans celebrated fifty years of the Treaties of Rome.
A complete and fully-fledged expansion of the Frankenbahn from Stuttgart to the main station in Würzburg is an absolutely necessary prerequisite for enabling Heilbronn to have an acceptable connection to the rest of the world.
