The European success story continues. On March 25, during the German Council Presidency in the first half of 2007, we Europeans were able to celebrate fifty years of the Treaties of Rome; For us here in Germany this means first and foremost more than sixty years of peace and for more than seventeen years for all Germans also in freedom.

Peace and freedom have long since become a matter of course for us Europeans; one could almost think that we are now looking for the hair in the soup without realizing that the soup fills you up, not to mention that it can also taste good.

So I would like to draw your attention to some other benefits that Europe has already brought us. An economic area without borders and tariffs with almost 500 million citizens of the Union, a common currency for a good 300 million people, a standardization of technical solutions in the area of passenger, goods and money traffic, telecommunications and the legal system, the security of energy and food supplies . In addition, there are many other positive achievements that can be linked to European unification. In the course of the further development of the European Union, there will certainly be new, additional advantages for all of us.

For us in Heilbronn, this means that the city of Heilbronn has already developed into a cosmopolitan, European city that has become home to people from almost every country on our planet. The majority of them no longer call themselves foreigners, but at least citizens of the Union and are increasingly identifying with their adopted country. We were able to clearly determine this during the last soccer World Cup. Our fellow citizens with a migration background are also becoming more and more actively involved in Heilbronn society, including with the EUROPA-UNION Germany (EUD).

I would like to warmly welcome you all to the events and activities of the Heilbronn district association of the EUD and invite you to take part. In addition to our regular European get-togethers, lecture events and trips to the European institutions, we would also like to take part in street campaigns and above all through ours, which have already become a tradition in Heilbronn Meeting point Europe help ensure that Europe continues to grow together, even on a small scale, and thus strengthen the foundations of a successful European Union.

That's why we Europeans want to prove on Saturday, May 12, 2007 that the "European soup" not only fills you up, but also tastes great in all its variations. Please convince yourself!

"I myself subscribe more to the European philosophy of life, leaning my priorities towards wine, women and, well that's about it."
