Feature photo: Heilbronn town hall in acrylic by Wolfgang Loesche

It is very pleasing that the sad topic of “hero worship” in the Heilbronn town hall is now also being taken up by the Rhein-Neckar Zeitung (April 3.4.2024, 7: XNUMX). How already written by me, it became official at the end of last year that the former SPD mayor Dr. Hans Hoffmann Not only was he a Nazi from the very beginning, but as an SS man he was also a member of another criminal organization. Ergo, not only a very bad person until 1945, but a liar and cheat until his own end.

And the incumbent SPD mayor immediately held his hand protectively over the comrade and prevented his portrait from being taken down. He ensured that a usually very compliant local council agreed to continue to insult, if not insult, all democratically inclined Heilbronners and especially the victims of National Socialism and their relatives by the very prominent display of a Nazi opposite the small council chamber and right in the entrance area of the town hall to make fun of them!

The last few weeks I've been like Brigitte Fritz Kador, the author of the above-mentioned article, is out and about in the town hall and is amazed that the reference to the misdeeds of this SPD mayor, decided by the local council, cannot yet be seen next to his large portrait.

And so this was also the topic at today's meeting in the course of the upcoming local council election, at least among the more democratically inclined participants. I was able to find out that the name tag was from Hans Hoffman has probably been provided with a QR code since the beginning of March 2024, which would point to an information text from the city archives. A QR code that I have overlooked several times - despite my unbridled enthusiasm for QR codes - especially today. But it could also be that the city administration confuses a QR code with the well-known microfiches, which, as we all know, cannot be deciphered without an appropriate reading device.

In any case, one can ask oneself whether anyone will find this clue if those who specifically look for it cannot find it!

I still don't assume that in Heilbronn we have neither a majority of Nazi-affiliated city leaders nor such a local council - they are still in the minority there - but I now increasingly suspect that the infamous Heilbronn Hasenmahlseilschaft is not only quite good across party lines works, but whose members stick together faithfully even beyond democracy and death - “the leader would be happy” and Hans Hoffman certainly smile.

Since our local councilors clearly don't have the stomach to hang at least a fig leaf of information on a Nazi portrait, the only demand from our Heilbronn citizens can be: Hang Hans Hoffman not up, but down!

Recently, many citizens and especially local councilors have been campaigning for the need to promote and support democracy and, above all, to counteract any anti-democratic efforts.

Hic Rhodus, hic salta! — dear local councilors: don't talk, just do it!
