Double oomph

Some contemporaries probably experience a double whammy at least once in their lives. Already designated 2022 Olaf Scholz the planned state support for energy supply and the planned price caps as a “double whammy”; which perhaps also inspired one or two artists to create their own double wisms.

Today I was able to experience my very own double whammy, namely when a reader of my blog made me aware of a faux pas on my part that actually shouldn't have happened.

I had my first such oomph when I discovered that... a supposed poem by Rainer Maria Rilke actually from Lars van Rome comes from. This was very embarrassing for me even back then, because I had been moving Rilke's collected poems from one bookshelf to another for a few decades; this is solely due to the moves.

Nice Charlemagne knew that not everything that is on the internet has to be correct. Over the years I have also come to realize that this insight not only applies to the Internet, but also, among other things. You also have to be very careful with books and not just the poems!

In the end, this certainty even led me to turn to social media because I had to assume more and more that far too much of what was published there had hardly anything in common with reality or even realities.

And so I got into the habit of paying close attention to good sources in my blog... and a few days ago I received a very nice and currently very appropriate poem in the mail. Was there as an author Rainer Maria Rilke called. However, the second time I read it I was a bit suspicious; it didn't really fit with Rilke. I knew exactly where Rilke's collected works were currently located, but there were too many steps between them and me and so I repressed my doubts.

Shortly afterwards I was looking for a suitable poem for my blog and right there on the table next to me was the one in question in black and white along with the best wishes for the upcoming holidays. And as luck would have it, I received an email and another friend sent me Christmas greetings along with a poem - exactly this poem, but not in print, but digitally.

No matter what, I copied the poem “Four Candles” and added it to my blog post. But an untruth doesn't become true just by repeating it over and over again! And so my very own double oomph was born.

Less than two days later I was from Barbara Michler pointed out my mistake, and I corrected this immediately. The good thing about it is that there was a very nice exchange of correspondence, which introduced me to an author who was new to me, namely Elli Michler from Würzburg, brought closer. I also got a few more, probably because we are close to Christmas Elli Michler-Poems and one of her fables included.

Without a doubt, I have found my favorite reader today!

And so a mistake, at least if you recognize it, can still lead to something good. And so I climbed the steps to take a photo for this blog post.

The double oomph above comes from The Wellermän; By the way, its name fits our state government's image campaign quite well.
