Feature photo: Parking in Heilbronn

Initiative

The latest development in the shopping center on the Allee is pleasing. The tenants and owners are taking the initiative and trying to get the parking garage there under control again; Around 200 parking spaces are not without significance in the city center. It remains to be hoped that this measure will be successful. By the way, the city center already has 6 public parking spaces. Unfortunately, I don't know how many additional private parking spaces there are in garages and other parking spaces.

However, I am aware that far too many public parking spaces are empty at night in the city center and could therefore be offered to city center residents; Up to 5 minutes on foot to your own car should not be an obstacle.

tower road

It's pleasing that it's still happening now tower road go on. After countless competitions, resident surveys, city presentations and huge amounts of tax money already spent, a further step is to be taken towards a green tower street. After all the decades of standstill, no one responsible is talking about the necessary expansion of the pedestrian zone anymore - the very word pedestrian zone is deliberately ignored by the city and the local council (Heilbronner Stimme, March 26.3.2024, 26: XNUMX).

But concerned local councilors from the better outskirts are now talking about cheap parking spaces and a complete overemphasis on greenery in the city center. It is completely the wrong approach to view the city center as just cheap parking space and an even cheaper bar and shop mile!

We need an attractive core city, with as few cars as possible, more green and, above all, clean. Residents can be accommodated with cheaper parking options in the parking garages, and other district residents could be motivated by higher parking fees to get to the city center on foot, by bike or by bus.

As soon as this is regulated and we perhaps even have public toilets in the city center again, not only will the strollers and shoppers return in greater numbers, but also the corresponding shops and restaurants. What works in many other cities could also work in Heilbronn.

And then the battered homeowners who have been completely abandoned by the local councils will probably also think about how they can improve their buildings again.

But I fear that as long as we keep electing the same local councilors, nothing will change for the better in Heilbronn. More than 60 years of standstill on Turmstrasse alone raises doubts as to whether both the local council and the city administration are up to their tasks.

postprocessing

Today's lecture was followed by around 70 students. But the highlight was the coffee that I had with beforehand Detlef Stern was able to enjoy. At the end I met a student from the last summer semester who actually listened to me, but due to unfortunate circumstances he wasn't able to write the exam until the winter semester - it's pleasing for both of us that he passed it well.

My admittedly somewhat complicated attempts to motivate the students a little more to prepare for the respective lectures failed right from the start. Starting with the next lecture, I'll take a simpler approach.

Question of the day: What impact does archiving have on human resources management in a project?
