nuisance

Recently, littering in the city center has increased again in its northern area around Schäfergasse and Turmstrasse. Residents attribute this to new additions to Turmstrasse, who are not even afraid of simply dumping entire apartment furnishings onto the street.

Meanwhile, residents can no longer even dispose of their household waste in the paid trash cans. It happens again and again that the trash cans that are put out on the street in the morning are completely overfilled and have a red sticker on them in the evening after returning from work; partly garnished with more rubbish.

A homeowner in her 80s is tirelessly trying to get the unbearable situation under control with a broom and a cutter shovel. Some residents have already started getting rid of other people's trash at their businesses and from happier neighbors.

Another homeowner has meanwhile tried to clarify this issue with the city administration. The city administration has proposed the following solutions:

  • put less in the trash can so that there is room for the new neighbors' trash;
  • together with other residents to purchase larger trash cans that would also be lockable;
  • and my very personal favorite: buy a garbage bag for a good 5 euros each, put the third-party garbage and other household garbage in it and then put both on the street when the garbage is collected - let the vicious circle begin!

The city administration rejects the compromise proposal to simply instruct the garbage collectors to empty the overfull garbage cans in this particular case. The reason is obvious: the city does not want to pay the additional costs.

Heilbronn solution

The good old lady can no longer handle the garbage, the neighbors put it away Foreign waste, which they can't get rid of otherwise, just put it on the street so that the city cleaning department can solve the problem.

A citizen reports to the city administration that garbage has been lying on the street for days and that the mountain of garbage continues to grow every day. A few days later, a city employee comes by and takes a look at the whole thing himself - despite the city administration having photos. A few days later, two city employees come by and see if they can identify where the garbage comes from. A few days later, a waste disposal company hired by the city comes by and takes away most of the trash that was there. The 80-year-old homeowner continues to desperately try to dispose of the remaining garbage. Another citizen informs the city administration that there is garbage on the street. A few days later, an employee from the city administration comes and takes a look at the whole thing himself...

miscellany

A new ice rink has been an issue for a long time, especially since our ice athletes have become a little more successful. After all these years, a new building would routinely be necessary, as the old ice rink was neither an architectural highlight nor a functional building. The problem is that there is neither a club nor a sponsor who could afford such a new building. Another problem is that this topic does not belong on our city's list of priorities, because in addition to the public schools, other infrastructure projects must be brought back up to speed.

And we also have to be very careful with our main cemetery, as it is known to be in a very attractive location. At the moment we keep hearing voices saying that this is no longer necessary, at least in its current size. I wouldn't be surprised if developers soon came around the corner with the idea of attractive single-family homes; In this case we should insist that the cemetery be preserved as a park.

And the now former Friedrich-Ebert-Trasse should not make way for individual houses, as these will neither help the existing housing shortage nor the increasing climate change. It would be better for everyone, our city and the climate if the existing route were converted into a park.

Parliament

Today I would like to take a stand for our media, because this media scolding is slowly but surely getting on my nerves. On the one hand, this comes from the corner of the anti-democrats, who only want to hear and read their own opinions and convictions and who also all want the Sturmer or the New Germany back, the only two newspapers that, along with Pravda, proclaim nothing but the pure truth have. On the other hand, many of our citizens with a migrant background are also convinced that our media only lies and gets the true information from their former home countries, from which they quite rightly fled.

No matter which corner the antipathy towards our media may come from, it is slowly but surely taking on pathological traits. Yes, it's true, not every newspaper and not every station is worth the money you pay for them, but nobody can expect that. It is important that there are enough broadcasters and newspapers that, taken as a whole, reflect the diversity of opinions in a society and are committed to freedom of expression.

Years ago, when our democracy was not as endangered as it is today, I still campaigned for freedom of expression, even for media that do not stand on the basis of democracy and the rule of law. I now see things a little differently and am convinced that those who do not want to play by our rules of an open society have no place with us - and are certainly not allowed to spread their extremist ideas.

Back to our media, I have often posted on the weblog newspapers and magazines pointed out, which I like to consume myself. Since I now have to assume that many newspapers, journals and magazines no longer read because they cost something and therefore tend to demonize them, I would like to point out a newspaper that has been published by the Federal Agency for Political Affairs for decades Education is published as an e-paper, can be read free of charge and has the blessing of all democratic parties in Germany. Parliament, as this newspaper is called, does not have the “charm” of a picture newspaper and does not show any nudity on page 4, but it provides very objective information about current events. Admittedly, this type of information is a bit too dry for me, but without any ifs or buts, the information is very reliable. It is important to note that everyone can make a mistake and that mistakes or one-sided opinions can also occur in “The Parliament” - that is why we citizens should all have our own media skills!

I myself usually only read the supplement “From Politics and Contemporary History”, but I also get my political information from media that usually correspond more closely to my own beliefs because they also have them. But I also have sufficient media competence to be able to classify this and call it e.g. For example, the Bild newspaper should not be seen as a lying press just because it writes against most of my own beliefs.

If you reject all newspapers in which the article writers do not agree with your own opinion, then you will have difficulties even with the newspaper “The Parliament”.
