Since the first celebration of Tagss der Erde on April 22, 1970, this celebration has grown into the world's annual commemoration of our environment.

I, too, commemorate this day and have so far happily given my better half an environmental protection bracelet on this occasion, which also benefited corresponding voluntary organizations.

Rachel Carsons book "SilentSpring" from 1962 was probably one of the triggers, which then about eight years later led to the founding of the "Earth Days” led. Name and concept were first created by John McConnell proposed at a UNESCO conference in San Francisco in 1969 and was first to be celebrated on March 21, 1970, the onset of spring in the northern hemisphere.

The US Senator Gay Lord Nelson started a national environmental action day with the name sometime at the same time Environmental Teach-in or Earth Day, which first took place on April 22, 1970 and was intended to encourage people to rethink their own consumption of the environment and resources.

Since 1990, Earth Day has been celebrated around the world on April 22nd. In 2009, the General Assembly of the United Nations officially declared this day "International Mother Earth Day", whereby this name did not prevail and the "Earth Day“ stayed.

Regardless, it's always a good day to reflect on your own resource use and also to reflect on yourself.

"Don't waste the Earth - It is our Jewel!"
