toilet paper

That I would one day write an article about toilet paper never even occurred to me in my wildest dreams. But since I live in a neighborhood where toilet paper hasn't been available for days and I also have a completely normal digestion, I'm starting to have my thoughts.

I still believe in the good in people and even more in a functioning market economy, so I have so far refrained from starting the production of my own toilet paper.

But it's amazing what happens when people's normal life situation suddenly changes a little. This is confirmed above all by those who have long maintained that our society is completely oversaturated and has already fallen very far.

And for those who just don't want to believe that there are always a large number of "assholes" among us, they try their luck in psychoanalysis to find more plausible reasons for toilet paper hoarding. But even these come very quickly to the "anal phase" and then like to speak, scientifically sound, of anal characters.

I don't want to go that far again and, after a brief review of my thesis by calling other cities, I have come to the conclusion that it is solely a question of intelligence.

The stupider - qualitatively and quantitatively - the people in your neighborhood are, the less toilet paper you will find on the shelves of supermarkets and drugstores.

That's why the old German proverb "Dumber than the police allow" must now read as follows: "Dumber than Aldi and Lidl can deliver toilet paper."

"As his [human] consciousness has broadened and differentiated, so his moral nature has lagged behind. That is the great problem before us today. Reason alone does not suffice."

Carl Jung, The Undiscovered Self (2006 [1958]: 98)
