candidacy

Still on election evening of the last election campaign in 2019 I wrote a blog post and thanked my fellow citizens, non-voters, voters as well as my fellow and opposing candidates for an exciting and educational week. Even though I didn't even reach my minimum goal at the time, I really enjoyed the election campaign. So I immediately decided to run for office in 2024.

The world has moved on a lot in the meantime and there have also been major changes in Heilbronn. Our former Free Voters in parliamentary group size have since become two groups and the club has been severely hit as a result. And I, a free voter who actually just wanted to actively participate in an election campaign and also make use of my right to stand as a candidate - something that had hardly or not been possible for me in all the previous decades for professional reasons - has now become the club's chairman of the Free Voters Heilbronn and, because one office inevitably leads to the next, also a member of the presidium in the regional association of the Free Voters.

However, the whole thing has one advantage for my “election campaign project”, namely that I can now not only run an election campaign again, but also play a significant role in shaping the entire election campaign. The disadvantage is that I am now not only responsible for my own election results. Since I've never shirked responsibility, that's only a minor disadvantage.

Our free voters' list for the coming election campaign is now ready and we are starting to introduce the individual candidates. This is less of a problem with our driving forces, who have been very successful city councilors for a few years. But for our new or lesser-known candidates it becomes a bit of a challenge.

That's why we have already set up a candidate page where we introduce all of our candidates to interested people in Heilbronn. I think that there is now enough time until election day on June 9, 2024 for our candidates to introduce themselves to the voters and for the voters to introduce themselves too a good picture of our 40 candidates can do. I personally am convinced of each and every one of our candidates and firmly believe that each of them would also be an asset to our local council!

Of course, I would be very happy if my fellow citizens of Heilbronn elected me to the local council. At least I hope that at least this time I will achieve my minimum goal and be able to defend my place on the list. This will certainly be quite difficult, but as we all know, people thrive on challenges.

    • The Free Voters in Bavaria you mentioned belong to a nationwide party that unfortunately emerged from our non-party voter associations.

In Baden-Württemberg, the Free Voters have largely decided against becoming a party (free instead of a party) and are still organized as independent associations in the state association of Free Voters. This also includes the Free Voters Heilbronn.

We Free Voters are therefore not a party and limit our involvement to the local political level - our members and candidates want to enable non-party local politics in the local council for the benefit of Heilbronn.

The elected Free Voters are completely independent in their decisions and are not subject to any group pressure. We rely on the professional and human competence of each of our local councilors.

However, only a citizen who has both feet on the ground of our free-democratic basic order can become a free voter!

I assume that we cover the entire democratic spectrum in our club; as far as I know, we have former members of the CDU, the FDP and the SPD in our ranks. One of our candidates even ran for the local council on the Heilbronn Left list.

As already said, the Free Voters are not about “big politics”, but rather we want to make the best possible decisions on the challenges in Heilbronn and thus ensure that Heilbronn continues to develop positively.
