Today, after a long and probably fruitless work on the backend of this weblog and updating my calendar, I waited in vain for the other European regular carpenters in the virtual space.

Shortly thereafter has me Oliver Durst pointed out that the European regulars' table is only planned for next week. So it was probably about time that I dedicated myself to something else for today.

And that's how we came up with the idea Adam McKays new film Don't Look Up. The film was released on December 9th and 10th, 2021 and is now also available for streaming. So we were able to have a cozy evening today — black humor is ideal for this.

The story is told quickly. Scientists discover a meteorite a good 10 kilometers in size that will hit the earth in a good six months. In their attempt to reach both the government and their fellow citizens and perhaps to be able to motivate them to take possible countermeasures, they fail as badly as I did today in my attempt to get the “webmentions” function to work.

And if you now think that all this is far too exaggerated and could only happen in the United States of America, if at all, you should take a closer look at us.

George Monbiot wrote in the Guardian today:Watching Don't Look Up made me see my whole life of campaigning flash before me" (The Guardian, 04.01.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX). He notes that it's no wonder journalists are badmouthing this film.

I don't think it's just the journalists who have to put this shoe on — it's all of us.

But you may also want to make up your own mind; I recommend that you watch this film for yourself. And so you might understand why some think it fits quite well with today's anti-scientific issues, climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

I'm also convinced that this film gives us a good illustration of what happens to all of us if we continue to prefer the jungle camp - representative of all reality shows and their popular representatives - to the arduous path of a good education.

“This is The End; my only friend, The End."

Jim Morrison, The End (January 4, 1967)
