After passing my A-levels, as a good citizen, I immediately began my military service on Monday, July 4, 1983; I was actually a soldier from July 1, 1983, but the commander of Jägerbataillon 552 found it more practical if the recruits weren't in front of the barracks until Monday.
I had used the days before to take a look at my new home and also tried out whether my green 4 Mark Golf 000 could even make the route from Heilbronn to Böblingen. By the way, the parking lots for us soldiers were in Sindelfingen.
That same night, around 2 a.m., we were all fully dressed, had moved into our dormitories and all the necessary lessons were already behind us. Less than four hours later, the practical part of the training began.
On December 31, 2014, I ended my active military life in Ulm and I still like to remember the eventful times in between, as these are probably the larger part of my life.
