daft

I recently got a new gadget: Daft, the self-proclaimed “anti-social” social network (“The Anti-Social Social Network for Minimalists”). The idea behind it is based on the good old email. When you register, you receive a personal email address, which is best kept to yourself. Now you can send emails there, but only using the subject line, which my better half has been doing for a long time and enjoys doing.

This email is then displayed as a kind of tweet on a personal Daft webpage. You can keep their address to yourself, then you have a simple web-based notebook, you share the address with a few people and can use it to distribute information quite well, or you make the address public, then everyone can read it.

The real charm of it is that you can subscribe to any Daft website via an RSS feed and follow the respective tweets there - I'll call them Dafts. This is a completely stripped-down Twitter and therefore the right gadget for purists. At the moment, however, there are always problems due to high demand or low-performance servers.

A similar gadget (Detlef Stern Please forgive me for the comparison) is the Delta Chat, which is also based on email, but does not have its own website, is also encrypted and, as the name suggests, allows chatting.

Kick-off meeting

For a very long time now, many of the more politically active citizens have been European movement and also the EUROPE UNION gone out of fashion. And politicians with a little less education don't get much involved with either association. That's why there are always ideas and attempts from them to found new associations for democracy and human rights.

After lengthy negotiations for this purpose, a “network against the right” was founded in Heilbronn in 2011. My efforts at the time to gather the Democrats into the associations that were already functioning failed, as did my suggestion to at least combine these more active fellow citizens into an association for “democracy and human rights” or at least to be against any extremism. Unfortunately, back then they decided to consciously differentiate between good and bad extremists - I am still convinced today that this is the wrong approach and that these people themselves have a very large democratic deficit.

And so I am now really pleased that more responsible citizens in Stuttgart were able to bring themselves to this and have now created a non-partisan and civil society “alliance for democracy and human rights”. Of course, the European Movement, the EUROPEAN UNION and the Free Voters are there - ultimately it is a compromise, because on the one hand reason is returning and on the other hand a few more posts can be created for some citizens and politicians.

Automobile

The modern automobile with a combustion engine dates back to 1888 and we are particularly proud of that in our country. A good 80 million cars are built every year and one or two vehicles still leave the assembly line in Baden-Württemberg.

It can be assumed that the production figures for cars in Baden-Württemberg will continue to decline and that new drives will also determine the future. It is also likely that mobility will change again - which should not be unusual after a good 150 years - and cars as we still know them today will soon share the fate of carriages.

That's why it's a little surprising when the CDU decides at its closed meeting at the weekend in Schöntal to make Baden-Württemberg a car country in the future and, even more excitingly, to rely on the internal combustion engine - probably right after the good old fax.

Even our automotive industry, which has completely missed the latest developments and was previously thwarted by a CDU federal government when it came to hydrogen, is already a few steps further along.

And so I'm looking forward to seeing when the CDU will also recognize reality and understand that being conservative doesn't mean pulling out the ropes when the candlelight shines. I'm even more curious to see how the CDU wants to get Mercedes, Audi and Porsche to reverse the production change that is currently underway - this will probably only be possible through immense subsidies; But a planned economy also has something nostalgic about it, especially by candlelight when the wife digs out the knitting toys again.
