Actually one very good show and this has been the case for years. If I have anything to complain about, it's that the Weltspiegel editorial team is, for my taste, excessively loyal to the state, or at least very happy to indulge in the supposed mainstream.
Yesterday the topic of Africa and its people was particularly dominant, and I think it is an important and right decision at the moment. But, since people in the ÖRR like to “gender” so much and have also declared the word Negro a “non-word”, it was amusing when the word Negro appeared so prominently in its original and completely normal use in the Brazilian contribution; niger, nigra, nigrum doesn't just mean black in Latin.
Now I'm curious to see whether this Weltspiegel contribution will soon be removed from the media library or whether the team of moderators will publicly castigate themselves for it? Better not, otherwise a government representative will come up with the idea of breaking off diplomatic relations with Brazil.
But it could also be that the ÖRR is slowly but surely becoming a little more relaxed again. And perhaps the first editors will soon dare to become a little more critical of the government and self-critical - this would certainly be good for our ÖRR overall!
Pharisee meeting
Yesterday the annual Pharisee meeting - colloquially known as Remembrance Day - took place again. For professional reasons, I had to very often - far too often - take part in these commemorations that we routinely organized.
At first, when relatives and comrades of those who had died in the war took part, I was able to see something positive about the cold, later when I was a commuter, sometimes traveling a good two hours one way, just to get a good press photo for a few hypocrites I was already wondering whether such a day of mourning really made any sense.
Not just one Donald Trump is firmly convinced that “fallen soldiers are the biggest losers of all time”, but also many of our own representatives are of this opinion and have been doing everything for years not only to dismantle the Bundeswehr in its entirety, but also to get out of Remembrance Day another cheap backdrop and doing this for anything but our fallen soldiers; As described, the living soldiers - with a few exceptions - only serve as cheap decorations so that conscientious objectors and shirkers can put themselves in a better light.
And so you have to be happy that at least no Heilbronn city councilor remembered a Nazi hero this time - but at least I was spared having to take note.
