Gadget

After the airtags actually and contrary to my previous assumptions, I was able to put my youngest gadget into operation along the way. The manufacturer had previously delivered the last missing screws to me. Detlef Stern, to whom I have this gadget to thank, is ready to give me a tip or two.

Since my new gadget is a bit bigger than the ones I usually buy, it was inevitable that my better half also took note of it. And since I'm more busy with other things, she takes the opportunity and takes a closer look at the new "roommate" — I had completely underestimated the size of this gadget beforehand.

As already written, I can't yet say if and when I'll comment in detail on my latest achievement here in the weblog. Now, however, the reading of a yesterday very surprising from Thomas Michl brought into play book. The exciting question is whether I can nod my head in agreement or whether I will once again go through the roof like a HB male.

Server & Hosting

I own or at least pay for a wide variety of servers, which make my life and work a lot easier. These servers can roughly be divided into "own" and "hosted" servers. The latter is more expensive, but you don't have to do as much yourself and you should be able to rely on the expertise of the company responsible for it.

Recently, after a good two decades, I was able to experience that the meaning of “hosted” must have changed quite a bit in the meantime, because a “hosted” server is more work for me than one that I run myself.

Professionals will now advise me to read the small print of the contracts. The days when you could just do business to the benefit of both parties are now in fact a thing of the past.

Another observation that I was able to make at two larger companies is that they do not easily transfer positive changes caused by technology or process organization to their customers. They grasp the resulting "added value" just like that and quite naturally for themselves and really try everything to keep their customers in the dark about these changes for as long as possible - customer orientation is different!

Incidentally, this observation has now also been made by others, because a company recently pointed out to me that they had been forced by the state to tell me regularly that I had still signed the best contract with them.

volunteering

I had once again devoted the last few days to volunteering. Among other things, I accompanied two schools to Strasbourg and a EUROPA-UNION group to Maulbronn and on the other hand there was a bowling evening, an improvised European regulars' table and last but not least a garden party.

The whole thing now needs to be reworked and one or the other article to be written. My first conclusion is very positive. Some think that such an effort or the entire commitment is not worth it. On the other hand, I'm convinced that it's what makes us human and that we are more than compensated for our "efforts".

This time I was almost ashamed, namely when a comrade-in-arms of the past years, maybe even decades, gave my better half and me a restaurant voucher as a farewell gift. So we can now assume that we didn't do everything wrong, at least not my better half.
