Suddenly, not only our media and especially professional politics are surprised about this, but also more and more citizens are asking themselves how it could come about that our democracies are coming under increasing pressure and democracy as a whole is being questioned by more and more citizens.

At the latest with the election victories of Donald Trump and Boris Johnson it was obvious that this was a global problem. In addition, it quickly became apparent that countries with a socialist background or years of proximity to it are more susceptible to these developments. This suggests that democracy is all the more anchored the longer people live in it.

But why do at least most democracies have an ever weaker standing with their own populations? Why do more and more citizens believe that they are not the actual sovereign, or worse, that even as the sovereign, they are unfit to rule their own country? Why do so many citizens allow themselves to be governed by someone else? Why are these citizens always looking for the strong man who thinks for them and directs their fortunes?

The sheer convenience of us citizens would be a simple answer, but it is also too simple. Rather, one has to assume that these are the consequences of an increasing educational deficit among more and more people, which is tempting them to democracy. Because many people, if they don't understand something right away, tend to vehemently reject it immediately. Then there is the all too human group dynamic, which tempts many citizens to behave like lemmings.

But all this has always been so and therefore cannot fully explain or justify the current situation. Therefore, there must be other, and perhaps far more compelling, reasons for the general weakness of our democracies.

Over the last few decades I have repeatedly made corresponding comments and in recent years I have increasingly written blog posts on this subject. It is now becoming increasingly clear why, as a citizen born into a party, I quite rightly left it again at a young age on my own initiative. Namely, when I recognized the first consequences of the spiritual and moral change that was so propagated at the time, of which I was once a youthful follower myself.

So today I hold the following points responsible for the increasing failure of our democracy. I was not only able to observe these points here in Germany, but also had to experience them myself. These are not unique and limited events, but general statements that can be seen in all German democratic parties. And I suspect that this behavior will also be observed in the parties in our neighboring countries, because that explains the developments in these countries quite well.

First of all, I denounce the fact that every political party leader I know surrounds themselves with courtiers in the truest sense of the word when they get the best opportunity. Around them there are always people who talk to these “leaders” and at least pretend they have a kind of “soul affinity”. In addition, they constantly do small favors to "their leaders" and thus prove to be very convenient and loyal comrades-in-arms for them. These "leaders" also don't like arguments and certainly don't like the feeling that the said comrade-in-arms is smarter and even better than themselves.

This inevitably leads to all political party leaders living in their own bubbles, increasingly disconnected from other people's realities, and even worse, to those leaders themselves producing unintelligent and uncompetent successors and potential better candidates, at least unconsciously clear the way.

Second, I denounce the lack of self-cleansing forces and the insufficient recruitment of competent junior staff in all parties. No party looks any more to see whether its own or future candidate has the necessary minimum requirements in order to be able to function and survive as a representative of the people. They take anyone willing just to join their own party and then rally around the leaders there. It is no longer even recommended to these future candidates to first achieve the best possible school qualifications, to successfully complete an apprenticeship or even a university degree.

And you certainly don't expect your future "leaders" to complete a year of social service or even do their military service. No, they are more likely to be helped to get half-silver or fake degrees and later positions in the German armed forces (even if they were previously recognized refusers or even semi-legally deserted) or in the fire brigade and other aid organizations. Professorships at universities and colleges will also be arranged for you. A qualification is not necessary, the party book is sufficient. And these “leaders” are increasingly being spared even being elected for the first time, namely by simply moving up as representatives of the people and then entering the race for the first time with an official bonus.

This inevitably leads to our representatives becoming more and more incompetent and stupid from year to year. Worse still, fraudsters caught by the public or demonstrably completely incompetent or even voted-out representatives of the people are not removed from the party apparatus, but instead are provided with very lucrative positions, to the further disadvantage of us citizens.

Third and last, I denounce the hubris of, unfortunately, far too many representatives of the people. I could list countless professional and private events here, but I know very well that most fellow citizens who regularly come into contact with representatives of the people because of their own political or social commitment have experienced at least one completely crazy "decision-maker".

And I think these are the main reasons why more and more citizens are having doubts about our democracy. Worse still, many citizens are finding it increasingly difficult to distinguish between the truly democratic, honest, decent and upstanding MEPs — who, in fact, still exist! — and the representatives of the people, who are very dangerous for all democracies, because the latter can now also be found in all democratic parties or even emerged from them in the past.

And so is the jump of one Gerhard Schroeder or Markus Söder now Bernd Höcke not far either.

Unfortunately, what I said will be confirmed in the coming elections. I now even fear that in the event of brilliant AfD results, many of our current MPs will simply switch to this then successful party.
