Haruki Murakami brings the 1987s back to life in Norwegian Wood, a novel first published in 1960. Actually, I'm not a fan of novels, but the title of the book, which not only reminds me of the Beatles song from 1965, which also aptly bears the additional title "This Bird Has Flown", aroused my interest, and when I then came across the following quote in the bookstore, also moved to read it.
"Don't feel sorry for yourself. Only assholes do that."
Haruki Murakami, 2000: 248
I can recommend the Beatles' entire rubber soul record, which includes the song Norwegian Wood, as well as the book, which is titled Naoko's smile in German.
"If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking."
Haruki Murakami, 2000: 31
Especially between the years an entertaining read and garnished with a few Beatles songs certainly an incentive to look for the cinema film later, although the music is by Jonny Greenwood is accompanied.
