minimum distance

Our cyclists now have a minimum distance of 150 centimeters on public roads. Anyone who ignores this can face penalties, including the loss of their own driving license.

As a pedestrian, I often ask myself why I am not allowed a minimum distance of 50 centimeters as a pedestrian. It's not that I want to overtake cyclists on the sidewalks or in the pedestrian zone, on the contrary, I always ask myself the question when cyclists push me off the sidewalks onto the street or even hit me in the pedestrian zone.

But the new question now is what you do if you overtake a cyclist on the right - I was a passenger in a car on Südstrasse - and they brush past the car in such a way that there is a real risk of a collision.

My driver had absolutely no chance of maintaining a minimum distance. My further observations showed that many cyclists do not pay attention to minimum distances in traffic, but rather use every opportunity to somehow weave their way through.

This now leads me to the conviction that minimum distances in road traffic are completely unnecessary hassles! If an accident occurs, it would be better to examine on a case-by-case basis who is to blame. And otherwise fall back on the old and proven rule that mutual consideration in road traffic is the first and most important duty of every road user.
