More and more politicians and desk clerks are coming to the conclusion that Europe would be better off without the USA and can certainly defend itself. Some even say that there is nothing to defend since the Russian Federation and its neighbors to the east are our closest friends.

So here is a scenario that will hopefully never happen.
The US has been militarily withdrawn from Europe for some time, as they need all the forces to protect Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Australia from Chinese attacks. Europe has declared its neutrality and condemns US meddling in the Far East. Meanwhile, billions of euros flow to France every year to maintain a European nuclear deterrent that actually doesn't exist.
Just as the EU Commission is returning from China, Europe is completely surprised to find that all undersea cables to the USA and the rest of the world have been cut and that other oil, gas and energy lines have been destroyed by unknown persons. The UK government shortly afterwards announces the renewal of its Splendid Isolation and Switzerland closes its border to anyone who cannot show at least 10 million euros in cash.
Meanwhile, the unrest in the European suburbs is intensifying and left-wing and right-wing extremists are calling for resistance across Europe — against what, it is currently not possible to determine. i.a. in Poland and Hungary, the parliaments are discussing whether it is not finally time to call the Germans to account for their crimes, beginning at the end of the Middle Ages.
The first EU units on the eastern border are overrun and destroyed by unknown troops. Barracks all over Europe report acts of sabotage, individual soldiers are attacked on the streets and in their homes. The police forces report that they can no longer cope with their duties. Individual German prime ministers publicly declare that they are available for a Russian-led interim government.
One after the other, the European governments are declaring a state of emergency while the EU Commission has already left for talks in the USA. Shortly thereafter, the European armed forces are instructed to bring governments and parliaments to safety in the United Kingdom or the United States as quickly as possible.
European troop formations that want to march to defensive positions are being destroyed by concentrated airstrikes by the Russian armed forces and their allies. The Russian Federation reports rapid gains in territory and the liberation of the first European countries. Individual sections of the population take the initiative and begin to defend themselves against the Russian occupying forces. The remaining European armed forces are trying to organize themselves and set up initial defensive positions.
Our politicians are calling for total resistance from safe countries abroad. It appeals to the willingness to make sacrifices of every single citizen and Europe sinks completely into chaos.
