Lost trust

Today we were allowed to read in the Heilbronner voice (20.01.2022/2/XNUMX: XNUMX) that Frank-Walter Steinmeier thinks that some citizens of our country would "lay the ax on basic democratic trust" and then, from his very narrow and limited partisan political perspective, describes them as extremists. The bad thing is that it is the incumbent President of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Rulers and the ruled have probably existed since the beginning of time, and so it is not surprising that the latter time and again perceive being "ruled" as oppression and rebel against it. Especially when they themselves cannot recognize the background and necessity of their enforced immaturity.

And so, over the millennia, a number of measures have been established as to how rulers can take the steam out of the boiler. These include, among other things, the regular wars of all kinds and, even more perfidiously, the countless pogroms, witch burnings and other human atrocities that only served to keep the respective rulers in power.

Another and probably far more perfidious measure is to maneuver the ruled all into a complete relationship of dependence and then to deal with them alone, so that they constantly want to free themselves from the "debt trap" or once again want to give up drugs - citizens who always want to who have to worry about their own existence are neither mature nor sufficiently knowledgeable critics of the existing conditions. They can also hardly denounce them politely, or very elaborately and convincingly for others.

This feeling of one's own immaturity, coupled with the knowledge that one can hardly free oneself from it, and the constant fear of losing one's own livelihood, inevitably leads to hatred, which then erupts in state-controlled or even completely spontaneous excesses.

The peasant uprisings in the 16th century or the bourgeois uprisings in the 19th century can be seen as attempts in which the ruled wanted to free themselves from their rulers - as we know, all these attempts were put down very bloodily and sustainably by paid mercenary armies of the respective rulers .

So it can be described as a true miracle that in 1945 democracy — the rule of the (entire) people — was slowly but surely asserting itself in Europe, and thus not only at least de jure the difference between rulers and ruled was dissolved, but also the majority decision as well as also made the protection of minorities one of the decisive aspects of human coexistence.

Truly a recipe for success that we in Germany like to refer to as a free democratic basic order, and which without any ifs or buts is considered the best available form of government — as long as those currently responsible stick to it themselves.

It is therefore particularly important that the respective people's representatives change constantly and that no fixed power relations develop! Every citizen can, should and must once in their life step into the role of a “decision maker” — as many of our MEPs like to call themselves recently — in order to get to know both sides of the coin. This is why grassroots democratic models also have their justifiable charm, as they make the necessary role change very easy.

Unfortunately, our democracies were also undermined by the well-known parts of society from the start. George Orwell, a European federalist from the very beginning, recognized this very quickly and took the consequences for himself personally — he lost faith in the European idea and our democracy as early as 1945; two of the best books ever came out of it. The first for us is "Animal farm’, and even today it is officially claimed that this is solely a critique of the Soviet social system — although he had described so wonderfully how one fundamentally lays the ax on basic democratic trust (Steinmeier); isn't playing his story at school or in any random company or city.

Our basic democratic trust is being destroyed by a new, meanwhile also fully established "ruling class", which is colloquially known as "the professional policyIt describes precisely those fellow citizens who earn their living exclusively through their function as representatives of the people, from earliest youth to old age, and who, moreover, hardly have to have any socially recognized foundations or even merits — by the way, bought, given or even swindled ones don’t count .

And since the “basic trust” in democracy has already been fundamentally destroyed, there will be more and more expressions of dissatisfaction — no matter what the occasion — with the pent-up hatred spreading more and more and infecting all layers of society.

The current inability to ensure viable and reasonably understandable decisions in our country that can give people hope that they don't always have to fear or even fight for their own existence, coupled with facts that are becoming more and more known, as more and more of our people's representatives - cross-party (!) - without any inhibitions or personal consequences, even enriching ourselves from the misery of our country and us citizens, now means that the highest representatives of the people are now looking doggedly for scapegoats who can blame them for this whole mess.

The hatred is already there, hopefully we'll be spared the excesses this time!

“Trust is a delicate plant; if it is destroyed, it will not come back anytime soon.”

Otto von Bismarck, On Kingship and Priesthood (March 10, 1873)
