On July 12, 2024, the chimney sweep was in the house — the usual inspection. Unfortunately, I was not there to watch the whole thing.
Today it was particularly hot under the roof. When I investigated the cause, I discovered that the supply lines to the radiator were almost glowing. This can't be the case, as the heating has been turned off for months.
Curious, I noticed that all the supply lines in the house were hot. So I went to the heater in the basement. At first glance, I noticed that it was not properly sealed - and dirty, too. Then I noticed that the heater was humming loudly and generating heat.
I went to the many switches and after a bit of searching I found that the "test switch" (for chimney sweeps and maintenance people) was switched on. After I reset it, the heater stopped hissing and humming.
Heilbronner Versorgungs GmbH will certainly be pleased with two weeks of full capacity. I wouldn't be surprised if they have signed a contract with Heilbronner chimney sweeps.
In any case, I now need a real chimney sweep - one who knows his trade at least halfway - just to find out what else has been sabotaged in the heating system. I don't want it to explode in the winter as soon as I start using it again.
Starting Monday I'll try to get someone responsible on the phone.
And so I am now glad that we did not go on vacation, because otherwise the house would probably have burned down in the meantime.
