Thanks to a tip from Detlef Stern I can at least currently go back to Douglas Adams radio play that made my school days at least a little more enjoyable. The German version of this sci-fi radio play classic is now available to listen to online. There are six parts in total, each about 50 minutes long.
The original series was broadcast in 1978, later also by the BBC World Service and National Public Radio. The then Stuttgart radio station SDR broadcast the German-language version that can now be found here in 1981.
End of the Earth
The earth is being blown up to create an interstellar express route. But: “Don’t panic!” Arthur Dent and his friend Ford Prefect escape. What begins as an escape becomes a rescue operation for “life, the universe and everything else.”

Robots and Doppelkopf
Arthur and Ford are thrown overboard in the middle of space. The starship "Heart of Gold" saves them at the last second. A robot named Marvin takes them to the command center, where they meet an unexpected fellow traveler.

The Girl and the Whale
The young woman Trillian and Arthur are the only people who survived the destruction of the Earth. Together with the commander, they set out to search for the planet Magrathea, which is said to be home to immeasurable treasures.

The Congress of Mice
The most powerful computer in the universe, Deep Thought, gave the answer "42" many millions of years ago. But what was the question again? To find out, a new Earth is needed, which must first be commissioned.

A Tango at the End of the World
After the computer on Magrathea explodes, the friends accidentally end up at Miliways, the restaurant at the end of the universe. There they steal a spaceship and use it to race towards the sun.

The earth has us again
Thrown two million years into the past, the travelers are transported to an ark spaceship filled with useless creatures and land on prehistoric Earth. There they learn the answer to the all-explaining question: "42."

Now I hope that the ARD Audiothek will make this radio play available for listening for as long as possible.
In 2014, to mark the game’s 4th anniversary, BBC Radio 1984 released the XNUMX game as an online version, which you can can find through this blog post.
By the way, the radio play is also available as a six-part television series (1981), as a musical (1997), as a play (2001) and as a feature film (2005).
After all these years, I am still enthusiastic about the radio play, even though I now often go back to the 1998 version of the book “The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide – Five Complete Novels and One Story”.
“Life! “Don’t talk to me about life.”

Thank you for the very valuable tip. I am curious to see whether this part will also end up in the ARD audio library.
