Feature photo: Philippe Mendel painting

Shortly after my better half and I moved to German-French "Family-Housing" with our two small sons in Müllheim, a small town in Baden, a family of six arrived from Paris and moved into the two apartments through us. Since we had already moved into the entire level below, our two families were able to quickly and easily settle into the block of flats and establish a two-story shared flat that was profitable for both sides. Admittedly, this was probably not always a good idea and constellation for the rest of the house.

Already on the day of moving in, following an old tradition, we greeted the new neighbors in haywire and were very surprised to find Philippe painting in the future bedroom. After a few glasses of wine as a welcome and to get to know each other, I decided to buy this work in progress, and in the early hours of the morning, to the dismay of the other neighbors, Philippe and I fixed the work on a wall in our living room.

You can look at this work right up here, it still hangs in our living room today, 22 years later and after several moves.

Philip Mendel is an excellent artist who certainly lives up to the high standards of Dieter Lapple would have been fair, and it is always a great pleasure to watch him paint.

Dorothea and Philip Mendel In contrast to my better half and I, we stayed in the tranquil village of Müllheim, which has very good connections to Switzerland and Alsace and has the southern Black Forest right on its doorstep, and stayed there in the pedestrian zone in the middle of the city Atelier eingerichtet.

I can only recommend a visit to this studio to every art lover and also combine this visit with a trip to the southern Black Forest, e.g. B. the health resort Badenweiler, or combine to Alsace; the museums and galleries in Basel and Mulhouse are also not far away.

You can start your visit at Atelier Mendel Art quite simply about e-mail or phone +49 7631 173259. I bet you too will return home with a picture.

And to make the whole thing even more worthwhile, please don't forget to take advantage of the various shopping opportunities for e.g. B. Fish, meat, cheese and wine, which you can find in the surroundings of or in Mulhouse itself.

"Everything moves, there is no standstill. Do not let yourself be ruled by outdated concepts of time. Away with the hours, seconds and minutes. Stop resisting change. BE IN TIME - BE STATIC, BE STATIC - WITH THE MOVEMENT. For static. In the now happening NOW... Stop building cathedrals and pyramids that crumble like candy. Breathe deeply, live now, live on and in time. For a beautiful and absolute reality!"

Jean tinguely, For Statics (1958)
