Others
This week I'm still battling man flu, and it certainly wasn't helpful to get three vaccinations straight away — now I'm really down on my luck and annoyed at my own weakness.
Hospitals, nursing homes and funeral homes aren't really my thing, unlike cemeteries, which I've always liked. For a few months now, I've been moving back and forth between the Heilbronn hospital and a nursing home. And since this week, a funeral home has been one of them. Even though the reasons for my visits aren't pleasant, I can still see that the people I've met are mostly not only very competent, but also very friendly.
Based on my own previous experiences, I will no longer be able to get used to hospitals, but to my great surprise, I feel quite comfortable as a regular visitor in a nursing home. We were certainly very lucky when we were looking for a suitable nursing home last year and found one that redefines the term "nursing home" for me. I admire the patience of the people who work there.
This angelic patience is only surpassed by the patience of the Americans, who simply accept that Donald Trump, JD Vance and Elon Musk There are three genuine Nazis in the White House, destroying one decent person after another. The fact that more and more GOP members are getting caught up in the mix is no consolation to anyone.
And if you think that this can only happen to stupid Americans, I strongly recommend that you check back here on the blog in a year — it won’t be much longer for us either.
Parliament XXL
After the parties, in a concerted action, had suppressed all efforts of the citizens to prevent the uncontrolled growth of State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg After having nullified all attempts to contain the spread of the virus, the FDP is now coming around the corner and is putting the citizens in a good mood by reducing the size of the state parliament.
After the federal election, the FDP is also facing extinction in the state and so its efforts are just another attempt to score points with voters. The FDP is thus already ringing in the election campaign for the 2026 state election.
If the FDP were to enter the state parliament again next year, the FDP representatives could give up their mandates and thus at least make the state parliament a little more manageable [black humor]. But it is already foreseeable that we will have a monster parliament in 2026, and then with a good 30% Nazis, even in a double sense.
The "mood in the country" is simply such that being allowed to be a Nazi is totally cool again. And anyone who doesn't want to be a Nazi for whatever reason is content to be a down-to-earth fascist, although for the sake of simplicity I'm including communists and socialists. The "mood in the country" is simply such that Europe, democracy and personal responsibility are no longer in demand.
Jan Böhmermann asked yesterday, who actually creates the "mood in the country"? The answer is simple: those who have always created it. Regardless of this, it has always been the case that bad bosses and bad representatives of the people really spoil the mood.
In my opinion, the more important question is what we citizens want to do about it? Simply singing a song together, preferably in good weather, has never really helped.
Skype or Whatsapp
From May 2025, Skype or Whatsapp history. In the end, I was only using this actually very good software out of habit. At the beginning, before Microsoft, it was the tool I used the most. I used Skype several times a day for work and private purposes and it was simply part of everyday life. "We'll Skype then" was the usual greeting.
Since I still have credit on Skype, I assume that it will now disappear into digital nirvana. I also have no idea what will happen to my many free monthly phone minutes - Microsoft will certainly not compensate me for them.
But never mind, Skype was a really good thing in its day and, as we all know, the best go first. But I doubt whether I will switch to Microsoft Teams now, because I have also evolved and have little need for such tools anymore. And so I now think back with a little nostalgia to my own software, which I put together and used years ago as a Skype replacement. The catch back then was that my friends and acquaintances only used this software to do me a favor now and then. And I had neither the money nor sufficient expertise to be able to compete with Skype and other similar products. At some point, it was only logical that I discontinued my own software, went back to Skype and am now seeing that the original no longer has any market chance either.
Software is also subject to fashion trends and who else but me wants to walk around in trousers or a shirt that are from the last decade? We always have to have the "latest shit"! Whether that is ultimately effective is another matter.

Bye bye Skype. Who will miss it? There are still enough alternatives that you can throw money away on...
And with which one can you make almost free and unlimited calls worldwide?
This also makes teams competitive.
Google Meet, for example – or Apple users use Facetime, for example. There are enough alternatives outside the MS universe, which also usually require less bandwidth than MS Teams.
Thank you. I'm just not sure whether you can use these tools to reach landline phones or older cell phones that aren't smart, like Skype. The charm of Skype was that you could reach the whole world without having to sign up for an international subscription with your phone provider or even pay a lot of euros per minute.
