hypocrisy

What more and more citizens are finding it harder and harder to bear is the hypocrisy with which far too many of our politicians act these days.

Recent examples were again on the day of national mourning and the public oath of the Bundeswehr in Berlin.

A commentator I don't know better called the former just an "opportunity to drop a wreath", although the said "dropper" didn't even bother to read on the wreath why he was there at all.

And when he was caught doing it, he didn't just confess:
a) because it’s part of his job and b) because he wants to be re-elected — obviously he no longer trusts his voters to be so honest — but instead he set the police and public prosecutor’s office on a victim of misguided German education policy .

Such pathetic behavior adds a whole new aspect to Remembrance Day.

If it is sad enough to see crocodile tears shed on Remembrance Day, it is now surpassed by another opportunity for "political parade" at the public vows and swearing-in oaths of German soldiers.

Recently, one often finds those who have not only avoided conscription or alternative service, but who have openly declared for decades that this is only for idiots and "civilian losers".

And this behavior can also be made even more pathetic, namely by having recognized conscientious objectors or "professional" slackers, using their political connections, subsequently be appointed officers of the Bundeswehr, strutting through the media with their new uniform like "vest pocket bokassas". and then explain in big words to the young 'comrades' in a small circle that it's time to "learn how to die again."

"I was fortunate that I could devote myself to my duty in my young and vigorous years."
