Intensified climate change, more frequent environmental disasters, the collapse of states, wars, terrorism, famine and epidemics are accelerating migration movements worldwide. Refugee movements in the EU, financial crises and an increasing discrepancy in financial circumstances, citizens' loss of trust in their parties, their institutions and the "Europe" project as a whole, as well as an increasing radicalization of many Union citizens are currently the most urgent challenges facing the European Union.

We European federalists are still firmly convinced that the solution to most of the problems mentioned above does not lie in further isolation, renationalization and a higher willingness to use violence, but quite the opposite in a further Europeanization of our thoughts and our environment - humanity and a sense of responsibility are the only solution!

We must all continue to hold fast to the idea of our “Europe united in diversity” and must not lose sight of the goal halfway. There has never been a backwards in the history of mankind, and paradise is not behind us, but ahead of us!

We Europeans must shape Europe and the world for the better, in line with the Hertenstein program of 1946; that takes strength and effort, because nothing in this world is given for free, except divine forgiveness.

Over the past 70 years, many convinced Europeans have campaigned for our world and a common Europe of peace with great commitment and verve, done persuasion and ensured that up to now 28 European countries are together on this only right path, as well as a good 20 other countries have also officially recognized this path as expedient.

Never before have people had so much personal freedom and opportunity as they do today in the European Union - and the whole world is open to our young people!

Therefore, despite all the current grievances that actually exist and the major challenges, we must not give up and, above all, we must not give up mankind's greatest achievement, universal human rights, for the sake of convenience or the "against everything" and "loser types". sacrifice for their constant bleating as a morning gift.

As democrats, however, we have to accept it when other people want to break away from our community. However, we do not have to tolerate that these refusers then continue to finance their activities at our expense or continue to benefit from community services. There must be no extra sausages in the long run. Rights, obligations, laws and contracts are equally binding for everyone in every functioning democracy – including in the European Union.

Here in the city and district of Heilbronn, the world is still in good order for most of us, we still benefit more than we are asked to pay, and we can hope that this will continue with prudent politics will stop. We can continue to look forward to holidays, festivals and celebrations and plan our future without too many restrictions.

Let's keep doing this. Do not become a victim of cheap populists and eternal doomsayers. The EUROPA-UNION Heilbronn will be happy to help you. We inform members and interested parties throughout the year about current events in Europe and try to find common solutions to the current challenges and offer them to politicians. We also organize educational and information trips to the political "hot spots" of Europe all year round and are always happy to welcome new passengers and other interested parties.

And just like in previous years, we will be celebrating Europe Day on May 7th together with our partner associations at what is now the 27th European Meeting Place. Meet convinced Europeans there and let yourself be inspired by the wonderful atmosphere.

I would like to thank all my fellow campaigners, helpers, supporters and the organizing team for their commitment to our common Europe. I wish us all a wonderful European meeting point again during Europe Week and trust that we will continue to master all challenges together in the future and continue on the path we took 70 years ago to a better world.

"If you don't know the guy on the other side of the world, love him anyway because he's just like you. He has the same dreams, the same hopes, and fears. It's one world, pal. We're all neighbors."

Frank Sinatra, in a Playboy interview (February 1963)
