gratitude

And once again we have to acknowledge - which most Germans will certainly not do again - that we Europeans and especially we Germans would long since have been in the arms of Soviet communism, no matter what the current form, without the Americans.

Our American friends have done their homework in the past few days and are moving their troops to Europe at great expense. Including those to whom they recently promised that they will be able to recover one day.

US-Präsident Joe Biden In doing so, he not only fulfills his contractual obligations, but also compensates for the shortcomings and obvious breaches of contract by us Germans with his budget and with the help of his fellow US citizens.

And what are our government and MPs doing in this difficult and dangerous situation? They are debating how the Bundeswehr can further relieve our administrations and who is allowed to enrich themselves this time from the military budget, which is now intended to be increased; a good chance for the recently voted out Union politicians to get honeypots again.

It is hard to imagine that a German Chancellor would give our alliance partners such massive support. I suspect he would never get out of the Bundestag alive.

And if the Americans notice this European haggling, which is once again being carried out at their own expense, it shouldn't come as a surprise if a new US President will soon say goodbye to NATO and Europe for good.

What can we citizens do? At least we should show our gratitude to the US soldiers who will soon be found all over Europe again.

And maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea in the coming elections to vote for actors or other citizens who, in addition to politics, also have their own lives and, above all, know them.

"RESPONSIBILITY, n. A detachable burden easily shifted to the shoulders of God, Fate, Fortune, Luck or one's neighbor. In the days of astrology it was customary to unload it upon a star."

Ambrose Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary (2020 [1911])
