Europe Day

About our Europe Days I have already written several times here in the blog. At the moment, we can also witness the inflation in Baden-Württemberg, because in the meantime completely inexperienced members of the government and administration are already celebrating Europe Weeks.

Immediately after the Second World War, attempts were made to establish a Europe Day in Europe and a date was found for this at the end of March. A few years later, agreement was reached on May 5 with little success, because the founding day of the Council of Europe was opposed to the “Proclamation of the EU”. Robert Schuman represented Greater Europe on May 9th.

A few years later, a few completely inexperienced politicians proclaimed May 9th as Europe Day and we now had two Europe Days in Europe. We European federalists now tried the balancing act and began to combine both days with a Europe week, which we managed quite well for a few years.

Other inexperienced politicians will soon be proclaiming Europe months or even Europe years, but unfortunately even after 80 years it has not been enough for there to be a Europe-wide public holiday. And before this holiday, which is long overdue in Europe, our politicians will proclaim a memorial day for dictators and all Germans will enthusiastically shout "Heil Kaiser!"

mopeds

Actually a means of transport that you usually find in abundance in Italian cities — I can hardly imagine visiting Naples without the countless mopeds or scooters.

However, the rattle and environmental impact of two-stroke internal combustion engines should be completely outdated by now, even if it's one of the popular four-stroke Vespas. And this is especially true in cities like Heilbronn, which are increasingly relying on other types of motorized transport.

If you now recall that the city administration invests one or two million euros in its employees every year for environmental reasons alone, then you could also consider whether it wouldn't be much more effective if you used all of this money for the first time Mopeds and the worst scooters removed from our streets.

For one million euros a year, you could probably make very lucrative offers to all Heilbronn moped owners and thus make a major contribution to environmental protection and make the city a lot quieter.

Why don't our municipal employees come up with such ideas?

Data processing

Information technology (IT) was yesterday, today it has to be at least artificial intelligence and under IPAI it no longer makes Heilbronner. And already warn people like Elon Musk from this great danger. People who are not much further than today Wernher von Braun in the 1940s.

And Musk's latest innovation has already been used by Jules Verne described in the brightest colors; he probably just didn't have the illustrious financiers who gave him billions of dollars to turn his ideas into reality.

But back to electronic data processing (EDP) and its dangers, which we now face Elon Musk and warn other important people so vehemently. Interestingly, one could read all facets of all of these warnings in novels from the 1950s. We don't seem to have really gotten much further with artificial intelligence.

Which in turn reminds me of an old joke from my school days. In the 1970s, there were desk-sized school calculators with funny names like Wang. There were no IT teachers back then, so volunteer physics teachers brought the students closer to data processing.

And such a physics teacher came to his class on Monday and reported very proudly that he had written a new program for the computer at the weekend and that it now has artificial intelligence.

The "programming class" met after school in front of the computer and wrote many a question on the computer. First the basics and then powers and square roots. Then the smartass of the class said that his brand new Texas Instruments pocket calculator (TI programmer) could do this too and the physics teacher was a little taken aback. "Ask the computer something from real life," he asked the student. And he wrote: "Where is my father?"

After a short pause, Wang replied: "Your father is sitting on the Neckar and fishing."

"Wrong!" the student triumphed. "My father has been dead for years."

"Not really," Wang replied, "your mother's husband is dead, your father is sitting by the Neckar and..."
