decisions

Life is full of it and that's a good thing! We and our lives are shaped and determined by decisions, and it doesn't really matter whether we decide or not. Because if we don't decide, then others will decide for us.

It is optimal if we can make a decision after receiving all the necessary information. But this is probably almost never the case. That's why we all have to learn as early as possible to be able to make decisions even when things aren't going so well.

Today I asked a few active citizens to decide on a very specific issue, and I'm looking forward to the result, whatever it may be.

On September 26, 2021, all German citizens can look forward to making a decision. It remains to be seen whether I will be happy about this result.

attractiveness

As is well known, after the election is before the election. As soon as we have the Bundestag elections behind us, the election of the Lord Mayor of Heilbronn is already on the agenda.

It is therefore surprising that the current office holder has kept a low profile for so long and that another candidate — a totalitarian by the way — has signaled that he might want to run for office.

But maybe we will experience something new: no one wants to become Heilbronn's mayor, and the municipal council has to ask the office holder to stay for another eight years.

change

Apart from the usual election campaign ideas, it can be said that many fellow citizens have given thought to how things should or can go on in recent weeks and months.

Our Kaufhof branch would like to start again with a new concept. The Heilbronner Voice, on the other hand, would like to position itself more broadly, and we can already be curious about what will become of the media company; the expanded cooperation with the travel company Gross could be very promising. I can well imagine that when you start your journey with one of the large buses, you will also find a current daily newspaper at your seat.

The fact that new restaurants keep popping up in the city and old ones disappear can still be seen as normal urban background noise.

As far as the retail trade is concerned, and especially in our Heilbronn pedestrian zone, you can hardly see any change at the moment. But there is hope, since market giants such as Amazon are considering having their own stores in the cities. This speaks clearly for the potential of inner cities. And we should strengthen this potential and not weaken it.

Therefore, we must ensure that our pedestrian zone is not only expanded, but also that it becomes more attractive to be there again, ie less rubbish and nuisance as well as fewer cyclists, cars and trucks.

To do this, we must better mark the routes to and from the multi-storey car parks and also make them more attractive, ie give the route from the car or bicycle to the first shops and restaurants its own experience and entertainment value; this could also be done with clean public toilets combine.

I'm sure that a pedestrian zone that has a catchment area of a good 500 people will continue to be very attractive for most shops and also for larger corporations. And as soon as the first shops settle down again, the others will follow.
