private schools

Once we all took pride in our public education and school system, and also believed that it made us more than the land of poets and thinkers, into a nation of Nobel Prize winners and world champions in patents.

Then we all suddenly believed that education and training can be had as cheaply and effortlessly as possible. The consequence of this was that we have run down our public education system, as well as the average intelligence of the population as a whole. For a few decades we could poke fun at Americans with their already broken public education system, but these days we should be a little more cautious about that, too.

And above all in the fact that we now see the establishment of a private education system parallel to the still dwindling public one as the new panacea.

On the one hand, both systems compete for the best teachers and students and, on the other hand, for the far too little tax revenue. Because anyone who thinks that private schools are privately funded is very wrong! The big difference to the public schools is that the private schools ultimately have to make a profit for their owners, whether churches or entrepreneurs.

Regardless of how private schools are now advertised to us, we can clearly see from the example of the United Kingdom and also the USA that this will ultimately lead to a further division in our society.

It would be better for everyone if private financiers, donors, tax savers and the public sector pulled together and together made the public education system what it has been for many years - the chance for everyone to get the best possible education Achieving it, and for the vast majority at least a good education, should still be a goal worth striving for. And as a nice incentive, one could also name public educational institutions after the larger donors.

As it is, fewer and fewer — and increasingly non-transparent (!) — decisions are made about who still gets a chance at education and prosperity in our country.

Start of the week

After my meanwhile usual meseno bus tour, there were a few more good meetings and what made me particularly happy was a very successful visit to the local Telekom shop. Michael not only managed to make me feel very safe and well looked after, but also to put my previous contracts in order. If everything develops as discussed, then I'll probably stop by the Telekom Shop more often.

While I was traveling around town, it is Detlef Stern succeeded, "my" Zettelkasten to further optimize. For my purposes, the Zettelkasten is already a very good tool, but I am always happy when there are further improvements or even additions. Especially when they awaken my play instinct.

And at the end of the day there was one more round Settlers of Catan, and I also won! I think yesterday Monday was an excellent start to the week.

Delicacies on the edge
