I don't know whether to laugh or cry, because recently there have been more and more inquiries as to when the first preparatory meeting or on which day the Europe Meeting Point will take place.

Since in Heilbronn they really have money for everything, except for the citizens - especially not if they have a migration background - on site, we were only able to organize the last meeting points in Europe to a limited extent and then pulled the ripcord in exasperation. I have reported about it several times here in this blog; so I'll save myself another link.

As soon as the waves of the mayor election have calmed down and the city administration has resumed its usual routine - the statements can then be believed more - the EUROPA-UNION will, as announced, first contact its partner associations and then together check whether it still makes any sense to think about another European meeting place under the given circumstances.

If this is the case, you have to keep checking and so on and so forth ... as already mentioned several times, it is not easy to reactivate things that have once fallen away.

That's why responsible politicians, whether city councilors or mayors, should think twice before destroying community festivals for purely personal reasons.

Neckar arch

A very good idea from the then mayor Helmut Himmelbach, which with its original goals would have been an enrichment for everyone in Heilbronn and the city as a whole. But then, under his successor, a perfectly reasonable urban development had to become something very special for even more special people.

And so the first thing that fell through was the idea of a new Kranenstraße, which would actually have better connected the new district to the city as a whole and would have advanced the city's infrastructure overall. But at least the residents of the core city of Heilbronn relied on the promises of the municipal council and the city administration to the last, namely that the expansion of the Paula-Fuchs-Alle, which is necessary for everyone, would not only connect the Neckarbogen well to the rest of the city, but also with it the northern inner city will experience significant traffic relief.

As we have been able to read for a long time, the municipal council and city administration are discussing the fact that the Paula-Fuchs-Alle becomes one Susanne Bay dead end and thus the traffic of the Neckar bend must also be routed via Gerberstraße and Lammgasse.

For this purpose, the city is donating a neighborhood garage to the special people in the Neckar bend, who are expected to share it with a good 6 cars (for 000 residents and 4 employees as well as their visitors and other third-party parkers). And since the city buses are unlikely to drive into a cul-de-sac, connecting the Neckar bend with public transport is also illusory. As is the use of the flash by cyclists — I can already see hundreds of cyclists scrambling for the bridge's elevators at the start of school.

On the other hand, every morning and at the end of school, we can admire a caravan that transports up to 1 mothers in up to 000 SUVs and their up to 1 children across the Bleichinsel Bridge. When I was at school, the show running was still in the roller skating hall right next to it.

Since we in Heilbronn will continue to do this in the coming years, just as we have done up to now, there will also be other wondrous developments to be observed. But what really hurts me as a Heilbronner, because I have to watch how a well-positioned city is run down so unrestrainedly — Potemkin universities, districts or research centers don't help much either.

Verkehrsclub Deutschland takes stock of the mobility policy of the mayor in HN

On January 31, 2022, the Hall-Heilbronn-Hohenlohe regional association of the Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD) published its Balance sheet on the mobility policy of the Heilbronn mayor since 2014. As expected, this is not very positive either.

VCD board Hans Martin Sauter is very disappointed: "Harry Mergel praises himself above all for the designation of commercial areas and the expansion of the A6. However, there were only marginal improvements in public transport, and the expansion of cycle paths is slow. Unfortunately, Harry Mergel has not shown any great commitment to any of the topics that could advance the turnaround in traffic and climate protection ... One rather got the impression that the mayor held his hand protectively over the motorists in case of doubt and thus, for example, also prevented traffic calming in the northern inner city.

Even if I don't agree with all of the goals or analyzes of the article myself, this is again an example of how stagnation and regression are sold as progressive in Heilbronn politics. And the Mayor of Heilbronn is the figurehead for this, who hasn't really achieved anything successful for us Heilbronn residents for decades and is therefore just too predestined to "keep it up".

The only thing that surprises me is that in 2014 the VCD still "had great expectations of Harry Mergel after he announced that the topic of 'mobility' would be at the top of his agenda."

But this disillusionment comes a little too late, because the mayor will be put back into office on February 6, 2022, and the only "Keep it up!" will then be celebrated and celebrated for eight long years. If there is an OB afterwards who actually wants to change something for the better, then I already have more than enough sympathy for this person.
