Pictures

As is well known, pictures often say more than words, and so I'm starting to decorate my weblog posts with photos again. I now pay particular attention to ensuring that the pictures fit the corresponding post as best as possible.

And now I have a little more challenge. Namely, which photo goes best with the post and where can I find one?

If you have a suitable photo for a contribution, also if one already exists, please let me know and I'll see if I can embed your photo. Of course, the photo is provided with an attribution (© Max Mustermann).

Farce

Without the cooperation or involvement of our democratic parties, there is now even a candidate for the office of Heilbronn's mayor.

In addition to the current mayor, who will probably have to stand up again to keep the post free for a candidate who has only been passed around in the back rooms of our "city clique", a city councilor submitted his application a little longer ago. The special thing about it is that he belongs to the "group of die-hards" who would like to build on their successes from 1933.

The third member of the group is probably a migrant from the Russian Federation, who has obviously recognized that life as a Mayor in Heilbronn is quite easy. In any case, one can give her credit for giving those citizens who will never vote for the current mayor a reasonably viable alternative.

The application period ends on January 10, 2022 at 18 p.m.; Each applicant must present 150 supporter signatures from Heilbronn's eligible voters with their application. There is still a chance that other candidates will come forward — maybe even ones that citizens can vote for with a clear conscience. Unfortunately, there is no chance in Heilbronn that those responsible in Heilbronn, our democratic parties, will behave as responsible democrats.

Backroom fluff and this only with the aim of maneuvering yourself into the best possible position as a party bigwig is something of the 1980s, we as a big city can't really afford that much longer.

No smoking allowed

More and more people and also countries are coming to the conclusion that smoking not only harms people, whether smokers or even just casual victims, but also causes very great damage to the environment and nature as a whole. Not to mention the billions in costs that smokers cause here in Germany alone. The organized drug dealers, aka cigarette manufacturers, are particularly well and willingly protected by the state and even exempted from all liability claims - it is probably still very advantageous if you bribe the right "decision-makers".

So is the "Smokefree Aotearoa 2025 Action Plan' by the New Zealand government is a particularly welcome move and can be seen as a bold step in the right direction.

Unfortunately, we are still miles away from such drastic steps here in Heilbronn. Yesterday I was once again able to see for myself how people smoked in our indoor pool, the Soleo, in the pool and on the edge of the pool. After a few discussions, the smokers decided to do so and returned to their smoking corner.

After all this years futile efforts, in order to achieve a minimum standard of hygiene and bathing culture in our indoor pools, I am already happy that bathers are no longer standing in the sports pool with beer bottles in hand.

The recent decisions in New Zealand should also give those responsible for our indoor pools food for thought and motivate them to issue an explicit smoking ban in the indoor pools.

Because there is still no plausible explanation for the fact that swimming supervisors, employees in the indoor pool or even bathers in the indoor pool have to be able to smoke - and this Heilbronn specialty has never been modern or progressive!
