Call for tender

According to today's city newspaper, the municipal council has decided on the tender for the 3rd mayor of Heilbronn. the previous incumbent, Wilfried Hajek, retiring on June 30, 2022.

“The business circle includes the surveying and cadastre office, the planning and building law office, the building construction office, the office for roads, the parks office, the operations office and the waste disposal companies. A central building management is under construction.” (City newspaper, January 12.01.2022, 6: XNUMX).

With the former Green City Councilor Suzanne Bay, who will now hold a position in Stuttgart from February 2022, there is now one less well-connected local councilor available for the post. Other well-connected municipal councils are probably speculating on a mayor successor, which will probably be organized in the next four years.

Proven specialists or established mayors could now apply for the post of “third mayor”. This mayoral position is certainly very attractive. In any case, an expert (like m, f or d) would have a field of activity at his or her disposal that you can not only work well, but also set your own accents - the current incumbent has succeeded in doing this.

The application period ends on February 6, 2022, the election date is scheduled for April 11, 2022.

Digital sovereignty

Nationalist ideas don't stop at the internet either. After "flawless" democracies such as Russia, North Korea or China have "renationalized" the Internet, European providers are starting up again and would like to have a kind of "Europe-Net", their own playground, if possible without the US competition - evil, who suspects something bad about it.

Under the concept of digital sovereignty, politicians as well as industry and business have been trying for several years to establish a counter-model to an internet that is open to all, which has so far mostly been dominated by US corporations and recently also by Chinese companies — which in itself is not a mistake got to.

The European providers see another innovation, namely that US companies such as B. Apple, want to further expand VPN and encryption and - admittedly - connect to their own servers, a danger to their own sovereignty, but probably in terms of making money.

It was intended from the outset that the Internet should be organized globally, comprehensively and decentrally. It is particularly important that everyone has undisturbed and stable access to it (the provider's task) and that communication can be secured as securely as possible and, if desired, also privately (the task of the software company). So that the whole thing continues to run stably, one should refrain from specifying paths and storage locations, but rather continue to rely on the Internet regulating this independently better than any regulation.

Rather, one should think about the fact that the personal data and also the private and also public content are stored and managed as decentrally as possible on the Internet. This could be Detlef Stern but express it much better, and thus this contribution is more to be understood as a "motivational bite", which is intended to encourage experts to make their own contributions here on this weblog.

European regular's table

We were back from Constance in time for the European regulars' table, although we were only able to stop by the Reichenau for a very short time; Even when the weather is not so good, Lake Constance is a good place to go.

View from the island of Reichenau

The virtual European regulars' table But it quickly developed into more of an internal meeting with guests. The nice thing about it is that they fit in wonderfully and also set their own impulses — that's just how we are, we European federalists.

loss of trust

More and more citizens are saying it (e.g. on SWR aktuell from January 11.01.2021th, 19) that they have lost trust in our governments. This is a direct consequence of the COVID-XNUMX pandemic, which shows everyone very clearly that incompetent government politicians, who are usually only selected based on proportional representation and quotas, cannot get crises - no matter what kind - under control.

To make matters worse, they not only want to continue to sit it out (keyword: "Merkelism") and thereby at most succumb to bare activism, which is also very expensive for us taxpayers, but also far too many professional politicians enrich themselves from the misery of their fellow citizens - nepotism and corruption are rampant and leave the, 1982 by Helmut Kohl The proclaimed "spiritual-moral turnaround" is now certainly shining in a completely non-partisan light.

So we can only hope that the COVID-19 pandemic does not last five years, because then our democracy as a whole will become a victim.

Unfortunately, however, the fellow citizens who are now so disappointed in politics learn nothing from it and in the next elections they fall for braggarts again; so we can only hope to continue to be pro-democracy.
